Petra (Gupta) Valentova is a conceptual and multimedia artist exploring questions of identity, memory, textiles, and the craft of hand block printing and dyeing, as well as the cultural and intellectual rights of indigenous craft communities. She collaborates with block makers and blueprint (indigo) workshops in the Czech Republic and with indigenous printing communities in Bagru, Rajasthan, India. Principles of collaborative design guide her work with artisans. Petra’s creative practice is inspired by the Anthropocene, droughts, and local flora. She works with artists and designers in the U.S., India, and her native Czech Republic.
